Eddie Barnes is a writer and political advisor living in Glasgow, Scotland. Formerly an award-winning journalist with the Scotland on Sunday and Scotsman titles, he has also worked as a senior aide and speechwriter to Scottish Conservative leader Ruth Davidson, also advising UK Prime Ministers on the reform of the UK state following the Scottish independence referendum in 2014. His interests cover the rise of identity politics, and the place of nationalism and patriotism in the modern age. A student of south-east Asian politics, he is also co-author of “The WolfCatcher”, a new book charting the 1MDB financial scandal in Malaysia. At Berggruen, he is going to work under Future of Democracy projects.
